Cam Akers Update
RB Cam Akers – Los Angeles Rams
Cam Akers tore his Achilles tendon while training prior to the 2021 season and was ruled out. He made an improbable return in Week 18 against the 49ers thanks to advancements in sports medicine regarding Achilles recovery. He rushed 13 times for 21 yards in the Rams’ SuperBowl victory. Update: Cam will go into training camp as RB1 with Sony Michel slated to become a free agent and Darrell Henderson more of a change-of-pace back. 2022 Outlook: “Cam Akers is returning from a torn Achilles and while he impressively returned late 2021 but lacked explosiveness. The data for running backs returning from Achilles injuries is not pretty and betting on Akers in 2022 would be expecting him to be the exception, not the rule.” – Dr. Jesse Morse
James Robinson Update
RB James Robinson – Jacksonville Jaguars
James Robinson ruptured his Achilles tendon in Week 16 against the Jets and was ruled out for the remainder of the season. He finished the season with 164 rushes, 767 rushing yards, and 8 touchdowns. James will remain with the Jaguars as he’s under contract until 2023. Update: According to HC Doug Pederson, James won’t take part in OTAs but he’s on track to join the team for training camp. 2022 Outlook: “I think there is a realistic chance Robinson struggles to start the year and will lack explosiveness which is classic for RBs returning from Achilles tears (think Akers) – Dr. Jesse Morse
NFL Week 8 Injury Review
As week eight comes to a close, unfortunately we saw several big-name players again go down with injury. The San Francisco 49ers continue to be ravaged by injury, as they likely lost both George Kittle and Jimmy Garoppolo for the remainder of the season. Kittle fractured a bone in his foot, and Garoppolo re-injured his high ankle sprain. Add in Tevin Coleman, who was recently activated off IR due to a knee injury, re-injured the same knee and is awaiting additional imaging.
