Josh Richardson’s ankle is a soft tissue injury.
Coming off a horrible performance against the Lakers on Friday where Josh Richardson only scored six points, one rebound, two assists, and two turnovers in 30 minutes. Richardson only shot 2-of-6 from the field and 1-of-2 from the line. Goran Dragic was ejected from the game. This gave an open door for Richardson to garner more minutes, but he still was not good.
He couldn’t get away from the bad experiences, as, on Saturday, he left practice in a walking boot. He went through X-Ray testing and an MRI; both came back negative. Even so, he has a sprain to his left foot.

“I hurt it a few games ago, but I thought it would heal better, so I just played on it and hoped for the best,” Richardson said before Sunday’s game. “But it kind of started getting worse, so I told them I wanted to get an X-ray, and I got an MRI. But they said it was probably just a sprain, so I’ve just got to stay off of it for a little bit.”

For Richardson, he believes this injury occurred against the Boston Celtics on December 30th and said, “It was in Boston and I took a weird step and my foot turned over.” He was hopeful he could play through it, but realized it was time to shut it down when he performed badly against Los Angeles.
The Miami Heat are having a hard time keeping players healthy this season, and losing Richardson would be another huge blow. He is averaging 36 minutes per game. Watch for Wayne Ellington, Dion Waiters, and Rodney McGruder to step up.
Richardson did not play on Sunday as well against the Los Angeles Clippers. Ellington started and played 20 minutes. He was awful scoring four points, shooting 1-for-12 from the field and collecting one assist. For Waiters, in 15 minutes played, the shooting guard scored eight points with two rebounds. He also didn’t shoot well 2-for-7 on the floor. McGruder got the start at point guard and put up five points in 34 minutes. With this mess consider Tyler Johnson and James Johnson to get more action as well.
Richardson is a hold in standard leagues. He has been averaging 11.2 points, with 3.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game. His next start could be Tuesday against the Golden State Warriors, but the outlook is shaky.
Ellington and Waiters would be creative streaming options as long he misses time.
